Braintree District Access Group
As a group we work closely with Braintree District Council and local Transport companies to improve our environment and to ensure disabled people are not discriminated against. We meet six times a year at Braintree District Council.
The Aims of the group are to:
Improve public transport.
Negotiate for dropped kerbs and pedestrian crossings.
Monitor obstructions on footpaths and pavements.
Ensure that public buildings have hearing loops and clear signage.
Monitor disabled car parking.
Actively promote the adoption of "Barrier Free Design" to create environments which are accessible to and usable by everyone.
Investigate local issues on behalf of the community, e.g. inaccessible shops, broken lifts, lack of hearing systems, highlighted tactile surfaces and accessible toilets.
Braintree District Access Group actively promotes “Barrier Free Design”
to create environments which are accessible and usable by everyone.
Our group seeks improvements for disabled people through close liaison with:
Local authorities in helping them to implement the Equality Act 2010 which replaces the Disability Discrimination Act 2005
Building Control Officers, Architects, Builders, and Developers to ensure that construction and refurbishment projects of public buildings offer full access for everyone.
Town Planners to create communities that allow everyone to live and participate as they choose.
Highway Officers in the creation of street environments that are safe and easily managed by everyone.
Leisure staff and Park Rangers to accommodate everyone in recreational facilities.
Public Transport Operators to develop accessible travel for everyone.
Parking Enforcement Officers to reduce Blue Badge abuse.
Your support and help is needed so that our group can grow and improve conditions for disabled people and carers in our local community.
