BOSP Skills 4 Life Day Opportunities

Day Opportunities for 18 to 25 years olds with additional needs, weekdays from 9.30am to 3.30pm.

Based in Wat Tyler Country Park BOSP’s educational Skills for Life Centre is ideal for those who prefer bespoke support in a small group. The BOSP Skills for Life Centre is wheelchair friendly and is equipped with a sensory room, kitchen and with a Changes Places adjacent to our building. The relaxing country park setting provides access to large outdoor areas.

Activities are very varied, and person centred to support individual goals, wants and needs.  Every day involves fun and educational activities that take place in our centre and out in the community.  We can support non-invasive medical needs and personal care.

Sports & Exercise: activities include amongst others, cycling/triking, swimming, gym, dance, drama, trampolining

Meal planning: Including budgeting, shopping, cooking and serving healthy meals.

Personal & Home Care: Personal hygiene and domestic duties such as vacuuming, dusting, washing and drying up dishes

Money Handling: Coin, note and card money management & budgeting

IT Skills: Teaching how to place orders, make bookings and become safer online

Relaxation time: Including films, music, quizzes, craft, board games and gaming

First aid, health & emergency services: Learning to make a doctors or dentist appointment, basic first aid course, visits to RNLI, Air Ambulance, fire and police services

Volunteering: Including, horticultural, food banks etc

Enterprise: Making and selling products or making/serving afternoon teas, to raise money for extra exciting end of term trips including; Walking over the O2, London Sky Gardens, Chessington World of Adventures etc

Environmental learning: agricultural, marine, forestry, farms and conservation

Additional community activities can include: Bowling, train rides, bingo, pottery painting, oyster farming, music, crazy golf, base jump, laser tag, zoos, woodworking, machine operating, train and seaside experiences. 

Areas of Development - Learning Outcomes

BOSP’s Skills 4 Life weekly timetable is meticulously planned to ensure all activities incorporate the following areas of development: Communication & Interaction; Social Understanding & Relationships; Sensory Processing; Interests, Routines & Processing; Emotional Understanding & Self Awareness; Learning Engagement; Healthy Living; Independence & Community Participation; Money Handling and Budgeting.

Transition – we recommend that you start to consider transition to post 18 service when your young person reaches 14/15 years of age due to the lengthy assessment/social care process.

TRANSITIONING INTO ADULT SERVICES OR ORGANISING DAY OPPORTUNITIES IS NOT AN EASY PROCESS BUT AT BOSP WE CAN HELP!

This free holistic service can help support you with:

  • enabling your young person to access BOSP’s Skills 4 Life Weekday Daytime Programme and other community services
  • submitting Carers Needs Assessments
  • obtaining a young person’s personal budget
  • improving links with social care
  • helping you fill the gaps when your young person leaves full-time education
