Brain Injury Day Service Support
The North and Mid Essex Hub and Headway Centre - located in Colchester provides; education and cognitive rehabilitation to improve cognitive ability, to help restore normal functioning or to compensate for cognitive deficits after an acquired brain injury. We work with each individual and their family to understand their specific needs and then provide a personalised programme of specific skills, training and practice with a wide range of activities, identifying solutions for individual problem areas. Communication & Social Skills - weekly group sessions address social and psychological issues, helping to develop understanding of brain injuries and how they affect each individual, their family their social and working lives. Community Social Activities - a range of supported social activities and programmes to rebuild confidence for brain injury survivor to help ensure they are not isolated in the community. IT Training - to help improve hand-eye co-ordination, memory, concentration and information processing. It also provides the opportunity to learn new skills, which can be a stepping stone for college and builds skills for future employment. Daily Living Skills - Help to re-learn skills which have been lost after brain injury. E.g. money management, cooking, shopping, eating a balanced diet and using memory aids. By doing this we increase independence and reduce the reliance on carers. Exercise Activities - Qualified therapists provide physical exercises suitable for all including wheelchair-bound people and those with restricted mobility. These activities improve health and well-being by strengthening muscles and aerobic ability.
